Emirates SkyCargo European Footprint Liege Freighter Service

Emirates SkyCargo has officially integrated Liege Airport (LGG) into its global freighter network, marking the airline’s first new freighter destination of 2026. The move shifts Liege from an ad-hoc charter destination to a scheduled fixture, with the airline deploying five weekly Boeing 777F flights to the Belgian hub.

The expansion adds 500 tonnes of weekly cargo capacity, strengthening Liege’s position within the “Golden Triangle” of Amsterdam, Paris, and Frankfurt.

Strategic Multi-Lane Connectivity

The new service is designed to support high-growth verticals, specifically targeting the pharmaceutical and e-commerce sectors through dedicated flight paths:

  • The Transatlantic Pharma Link: Three weekly flights connect Liege with Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Al Maktoum International (DWC) in Dubai. This creates a specialized “cool chain” corridor for temperature-sensitive medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
  • The E-commerce Gateway: Two weekly flights originate in Hong Kong, funneling high-volume e-commerce shipments directly into the European heartland via Liege.
  • Vertical Specialization: Beyond retail and pharma, the route continues to support Liege’s reputation as a premier hub for “live animal” logistics, including the transport of competition horses.

Liege Airport’s Rapid Ascent

The decision to launch scheduled operations follows a landmark year for Liege Airport, which recorded a 14% increase in cargo volumes in 2025, reaching over 1.3 million tonnes. This growth was the highest among Europe’s top ten cargo airports.

Khawla Abdulla, Vice President of Cargo Commercial for Europe, noted that the infrastructure and “freighter-first” policy at Liege allow Emirates to serve Belgium and neighboring markets with higher reliability. Torsten Wefers, VP Sales and Marketing at Liege Airport, welcomed the partnership, stating that the addition of the Boeing 777F fleet reinforces Liege as the largest freighter-only hub in Europe.

2026 Growth Roadmap

Emirates SkyCargo is currently in the midst of a massive fleet and network expansion. With the planned delivery of 10 new Boeing 777Fs by December 2026, the carrier aims to double its current capacity and add 20 new freighter destinations over the coming years. This latest Belgian expansion complements the airline’s existing double-daily passenger flights to Brussels, which moved over 15,000 tonnes of cargo in 2025 alone.
