Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a key member of the SATS Group, has announced a landmark partnership with SAS Cargo, securing a long-term contract for cargo handling at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, one of SAS’s primary hubs in Scandinavia. This significant agreement, set to commence on February 24, 2025, follows an extensive selection process and marks the first collaboration between SAS Cargo and an external handling provider at one of its Scandinavian airports.

The partnership extends an already fruitful business relationship, with WFS previously managing cargo handling for SAS in several European countries, including Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Markus Ek, CEO of SAS Cargo, expressed confidence in the decision, stating that Arlanda is a critical hub for the airline. “Partnering with WFS reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering consistent, reliable service for our customers. With WFS’s extensive experience and recent acquisitions enhancing their operational capacity, we believe this collaboration will ensure a smooth transition and effective handling process that meets our customers’ expectations,” he said.

WFS’s Senior Vice President for Northern Europe and Africa, Marc Claesen, emphasized the importance of this contract, highlighting WFS’s established reputation for quality service at other major European airports and the global growth potential of the partnership. He stated, “SAS Cargo is a prominent player in the air cargo industry in Northern Europe, and we share its dedication to operational excellence and continuous improvement.”

The new contract strengthens WFS’s position as the largest independent cargo handler at Stockholm Arlanda, where the company currently supports eight airline clients across three facilities. The logistics hub boasts 16,300 square meters of warehouse space, including special facilities for temperature-controlled and perishable cargo, along with a Border Inspection Post (BIP).

WFS has been delivering cargo handling services at Arlanda since 2012 and further expanded its capabilities in June 2024 with the acquisition of Terminal & Transporttjänst i Sigtuna AB (TT) and APH Logistics AB (APH). This strategic move is expected to bolster the success of the new SAS Cargo partnership as WFS continues to enhance its operational infrastructure and market presence in Sweden.
