Cathay Cargo Capacity Additional Airbus A330 Freighter

Cathay Cargo is further expanding its freighter capacity following the recent order for two additional Airbus A350F aircraft, with group subsidiary Air Hong Kong signing a long-term lease agreement for an Airbus A330P2F converted freighter.

The additional aircraft will support regional cargo operations and strengthen Hong Kong’s position as one of the world’s leading air cargo hubs.

Supporting Regional Network Growth

The Airbus A330P2F will primarily operate services between Hong Kong, mainland China and other regional destinations on behalf of Cathay Cargo.

The aircraft is scheduled to join Air Hong Kong’s fleet during the fourth quarter of 2026 under a long-term lease agreement with Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) for an aircraft owned by its leasing subsidiary, Cargo Aircraft Management.

According to Cathay Cargo, the additional freighter will complement its future Airbus A350F fleet by providing greater flexibility across regional operations while increasing capacity for freight forwarding customers.

Strengthening Hong Kong’s Cargo Hub

Air Hong Kong, the first dedicated all-cargo airline based in Hong Kong, currently operates a fleet of 14 Airbus A330 freighters providing express cargo services for DHL Express.

The company said the additional aircraft will also support future growth opportunities created by the Three-Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport.

Continued Fleet Investment

Cathay Cargo currently operates a fleet of 20 Boeing 747 freighters while also utilising bellyhold capacity across the Cathay Group’s passenger network serving more than 100 destinations worldwide.

The latest fleet expansion forms part of the Cathay Group’s broader investment programme, which includes more than HK$100 billion allocated to new aircraft, cabin products, lounges and digital innovation, together with orders for more than 100 new narrowbody, widebody and freighter aircraft.
