Cathay Cargo has officially introduced a new scheduled weekly freighter service connecting Hong Kong and Bangkok. The service marks the carrier’s return to regular freighter operations in the Thai capital after a ten-year hiatus. The dedicated schedule addresses the growing demand from Thai exporters and freight forwarders, offering enhanced air cargo capacity and seamless connectivity through the airline’s primary hub in Hong Kong.
Operating every Wednesday, the route utilizes a Boeing 747-400F freighter. This main-deck cargo capacity provides commercial shippers with significant flexibility, complementing the existing belly-hold space available across Cathay Pacific’s schedule of passenger flights to Thailand.
Dedicated Uplift for Specialized and Outsized Cargo
The deployment of a full freighter aircraft allows local logistics managers to efficiently handle peak-period demand and transport heavy or outsized shipments that face physical space constraints on commercial passenger airliners. The nose-loading and main-deck capabilities of the Boeing 747 freighter make it suitable for handling high-density cargo, industrial machinery, and eligible dangerous goods.
Ashish Kapur, Cathay Regional Head of Cargo for Southeast Asia & Oceania, noted that the resumption of the freighter service is a strategic step toward strengthening Thailand’s global cargo connectivity. As Bangkok develops as a high-potential market and an emerging electronics and high-tech manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia, the weekly rotation provides reliable end-to-end solutions for a broad range of commodities, varying from high-value manufactured industrial goods to temperature-sensitive agricultural perishables.

Enhancing Access to Major Global Markets
Thailand represents a key corner of the carrier’s regional Southeast Asian logistics footprint. During the 2025 operational year, the cargo division transported more than 29,000 tonnes of freight out of the country, demonstrating steady year-on-year volume growth across multiple product categories.
By routing through Hong Kong International Airport, Thai shippers gain structured access to key long-haul consumer markets across North America, Europe, and the Chinese Mainland. The transit process is supported by advanced cargo terminal infrastructure in Hong Kong, featuring real-time track-and-trace monitoring options that give freight forwarders visibility over shipment conditions. Furthermore, the hub network extends deep into the wider Greater Bay Area, facilitating multi-modal supply chain movements into Southern China.
