DHL Express has partnered with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with international shipments through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The agreement enables MAG to utilise DHL’s GoGreen Plus service, supporting lower-emission logistics across its cross-border air freight operations. The initiative is expected to reduce approximately 300 tonnes of lifecycle carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions in 2026 compared with the previous year’s baseline.

Leveraging SAF for Lower-Emission Logistics

Launched in 2023, GoGreen Plus allows customers to reduce indirect Scope 3 emissions by investing in SAF used within DHL’s air network. The service operates through a “book and claim” model, enabling emissions reductions to be allocated to customers even if their shipments are not physically transported using SAF-powered aircraft.

SAF is produced from sustainable feedstocks such as used cooking oil and can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent compared with conventional jet fuel.

MAG’s participation applies to both inbound and outbound shipments handled by DHL Express across trade lanes connecting the United States, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Supporting Broader Sustainability Goals

The partnership forms part of MAG’s wider sustainability strategy, which includes expanding SAF adoption across both passenger and cargo operations.

The group has operated SAF-powered flights since 2021 and continues to explore scalable pathways for wider deployment across its network. In 2025, MAG conducted a two-week SAF uplift on the Kuala Lumpur–London route to assess local supply chain readiness and infrastructure integration.

MAG is also working with industry stakeholders and local suppliers to support the development of a domestic SAF ecosystem in Malaysia.

Driving Industry Collaboration

The collaboration reflects growing industry momentum around SAF as a key tool in reducing aviation emissions and supporting the sector’s transition towards net-zero targets.

Through initiatives such as GoGreen Plus, companies are increasingly adopting market-based mechanisms to accelerate SAF uptake while maintaining operational efficiency across global logistics networks.
