DHL Global Forwarding Dual-Certified Cold Chain Hub Malaysia

DHL Global Forwarding has introduced an advanced cold chain facility in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Free Commercial Zone, expanding its life science and healthcare capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region. The new facility is the first of its kind for a forwarder in the zone to be certified for both 15–25°C and 2–8°C storage, meeting a growing demand for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical logistics.

The 38,000-square-foot hub holds both DHL Air GxP and IATA CEIV Pharma certifications, ensuring a high level of regulatory compliance for handling high-value, time- and temperature-sensitive shipments.

End-to-End Cold Chain Integrity

The new facility is equipped with a range of features designed to maintain cold chain integrity. It includes dedicated cold rooms, over 2,400 square feet of high-security storage with 24/7 CCTV surveillance, and a fully automated real-time temperature monitoring system. It is also built with eco-friendly infrastructure, utilizing energy-efficient compressors and CFC- and HCFC-free materials.

DHL is also the only forwarder in the KLIA offering reefer truck transfers, which are temperature-controlled from pickup to delivery. This service minimizes third-party handling and ensures that shipments remain in a secured, compliant environment throughout their journey, from the facility to the terminal and final destination.

A Strategic Hub for Regional Growth

The facility’s launch is timed to support the rapid growth of the healthcare market in Asia Pacific, which is projected to reach a market volume of US$4.5 billion by 2028. According to Praveen Gregory, Managing Director for Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei at DHL Global Forwarding, Malaysia is strategically positioned to serve as a regional hub for global medical technology companies.

This new hub adds to DHL’s existing network of 37 Air GxP and 12 IATA CEIV Pharma-certified stations in the region, including key locations in Singapore, Tokyo, and Seoul. The investment aligns with the DHL Group’s broader Strategy 2030, which has identified life sciences and healthcare as a key growth sector and includes a recent €500 million investment in regional infrastructure.
