Rhenus Group has officially opened a new air freight gateway at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, positioning Thailand as a core logistics hub in the company’s Southeast Asia growth strategy. The new facility will support inbound, outbound, and transshipment cargo flows, with a focus on key corridors including Intra-Asia, westbound Europe, and North America.

The facility includes a 600-square-metre bonded warehouse operating 24/7, with direct access to Thailand’s Free Trade Zone and seamless connections to Rhenus’ broader warehousing network near Bangkok and Laem Chabang Port. Services will include palletising, labelling, sorting, consolidation and deconsolidation, all delivered under high security protocols and international certifications such as ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, AEO, IATA and TAFA.

Serdar Onur, Head of Air Freight for Southeast Asia & Oceania, Rhenus Air & Ocean, said the Bangkok gateway represents a significant upgrade in service capabilities. “Bangkok is one of the world’s most connected airports. Backed by a team of over 80 air freight specialists and a 24/7 time-critical service unit, we are committed to delivering operational excellence and integrated logistics solutions with real value for customers.”

The gateway will be staffed by dedicated Rhenus teams offering full door-to-door air freight services, including customs clearance and multimodal integration.

Scaling Capacity for Key Sectors

Rhenus has been steadily expanding its Thai infrastructure in recent years. The company’s new Bangna Trad KM19 warehouse added 10,500 square metres and 15,000 pallet positions, with a focus on semiconductors, industrial machinery and white goods.

Future plans for the air freight gateway include construction of a high-security cargo room for valuables and temperature-controlled areas for pharmaceutical and life science shipments. The expansion reflects growing demand in Thailand for sector-specific logistics solutions in healthcare, electronics and high-tech manufacturing.

Sustainability in Action

Rhenus Thailand has introduced its first electric vehicle (EV) into the air freight fleet to support daily collections and deliveries. Additional EVs will be added based on operational demand, as part of the company’s long-term decarbonisation roadmap.

Nitipon Tansakul, Regional Head of Sustainability for APAC, Rhenus Air & Ocean, said the EV rollout is a milestone in the company’s environmental strategy. “This is not just about adopting new technologies. It’s about reshaping how logistics serves business and society. We are proud to provide transport solutions that support a low-carbon future.”

Broader Regional Integration

Alongside the new gateway, Rhenus operates a regional headquarters in Bangkok supported by a local team with global experience. Services include warehousing, cross-border trucking, multimodal transport, customs consulting, and trade compliance.

Tim Burger, Regional Managing Director for Rhenus Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia, said the Bangkok gateway is a strategic asset that aligns with Thailand’s growing role as a regional logistics hub. “The opening of our air freight gateway and EV deployment mark two major steps in strengthening our Thai operations. These developments enhance our ability to offer customers flexible, sustainable and cost-efficient services. As airline frequencies rise, the gateway will offer a smooth Intra-Asia flow and efficient global reach.”

Burger added that Rhenus’ expanded capacity will position the company to support fast-growing verticals, including healthcare, life sciences and advanced electronics. “These achievements are only possible thanks to the dedication and expertise of our Thailand team, who consistently place the customer at the centre of everything we do.”
